The Good
Look, you've look at the whole site. You see how great this boat is. Fabulous layout, great systems, just the right balance between brawn and style.
The hull itself is simply amazing. From the bottom of the keel shoe to above the waterline, it is in amazing condition. The Monel nails are still shiny, the mahogany is hard and sound, the seams are tight, and she does not leak a single drop.
If you want to cruise the West Coast in class, this is a truly great boat to do it in.
Note that a full survey from June 2019 is available to qualified buyers.

The Bad
Unfortunately, not everything as perfect. There are some little things that need addressing sooner rather than later. Things like
- The whole boat needs a new coat of paint
- The windows are definitely showing their age
- The is some soft wood in a few parts of the inner gunwales, the pilothouse roof, and the fascia around the pilothouse
- The deck needs a good sanding and recoating with Cetol.
- The main house was glassed (in 1964!) with polyester resin. At some point, this should be redone with epoxy.
- The forward deckbox covers are past their best-before.
The Ugly
And then there are the larger problems. In particular, the topsides between the guard and the caprail from the engineroom back have extensive rot. These were "planked" with two layers of 3/4" plywood which had been cut into strips 4" wide and 8' long. As a result, there is end grain everywhere. Water got in and this is now a spongy mess.
The good news is that the frames (which you can see from inside) appear to still be in fine condition, and this will be a relatively straight-forward job to repair. But it will also involve repair to the caprails, and parts of the guard. There is a fair bit of work to do.
As well, the inner gunwales need removing and replacing as well, although this is not as urgent.
So there's a few good hours of woodwork to do to bring Island Eagle back to her glory. But she's worth it!
